What is Gratitude?
I am sure that many people know what gratitude is, but if you don’t then I will try to explain. We experience gratitude when we are grateful or thankful for the things we have in life. As an example, I am grateful for being able to write this post. I am also grateful for being healthy and able to do my daily task. I am grateful to be surrounded by good people: many I even call friends.
See, when you think about it. We all have great things to be grateful for. Sometimes we take these great things for granted and forget to express our feeling of gratefulness. We just expect loved ones to be here when we need them. We expect to be able to go to work and earn enough to pay the bills. Sometimes we forget how great it is to be able to drive to see loved ones or make it to that job that pays the bills.
Is There Anything Not To Be Grateful For?
In my opinion, the answer to this question is “No.” See, even the people that seem the worse can be something to be grateful for. Like I mentioned at the beginning of this post, gratitude is the secret to a happy life. It is also how you attract more great things into your life through the Law of Attraction. When we are happy about the things we have, then we attract more great things to be happy for. If we are not happy with what we have, then by the Law of Attraction, we attract more things to not be happy about.
See, the Law of Attraction is always attracting abundance to us. It can be an abundance of good things or an abundance of not-so-good things. It all matters on what we focus on the most.
That is why it is important to try to focus on great things and the easiest way to do this is to focus on what we already have and be grateful for those things.
How to Practice Gratitude
There are many ways to practice gratitude. I am going to go over a couple of ways that I have used to in-tune my mind to think about all the things I am grateful for. These little tricks have changed my life. I used to be very pessimistic and believed in Murphy’s Law.

I was attracting all the not-so-good I could by being this way.
When I decided to focus on all the great things in life, my life really did change and it changed for the better. Practicing an Attitude of Gratitude is what led me to create this website. I wanted to share with everyone how easy it was to change his or her life for the better.
Create a Gratitude Diary
It sounds easy, right? All you need to do is to get you a notebook and a pen. Write down five things that you are grateful for every night before you go to bed. It’s important to have these things fresh on your mind before you go to sleep so that your mind can think about them while you snooze.
When you wake up in the morning, take a look at your list and remind yourself about the great things you thought about the night before. Then each night before you go to bed, write down another five things. Keep doing these two easy steps and eventually you will have an entire book of things you have gratitude for.
At first, you might write down things like your friends, your car, your health, your new shoes… whatever comes to mind that makes you happy. It doesn’t matter if they are material things. It is OK to be thankful for those things. After all, you probably worked hard for those things or they may have been gifts from someone who loves you. If you write down how great it was to get or gift or that you were able to have enough work to afford these things, then you have found more to be grateful for.
See how easy it is?
It is also OK to write down the same things more than once or twice in your journal. Just because you wrote them in your book doesn’t mean you stop being grateful for them. The idea is to create an attitude of gratitude that you can reflect on through the day, so write them down as often as you want to.
Use Empathy Though Out Your Day
Let me give you another personal example. I used to get upset when people pulled out in front of me. I thought they must be rude people or they only thought about themselves. After all, they impeded the speed I was driving and I was trying to get somewhere on purpose: I wasn’t just out there on the road wasting time.
Two things happened to the way I thought about these people. The first time I realized it was a good thing that they pulled out in front of me happened when I wasn’t paying attention to how fast I was going. I was lost in thought and just following my morning routine on my way to work.
Then this guy pulled out in front of me, causing me to slow down. One block down the road there was a police car parked watching everyone’s speed. If that person would have not slowed me down, then I would have been really late, gotten a ticket, and wasted money and time going to court a week or so later.
The second time I realized this was a good thing happened when I discovered the power of empathy.
I pulled out in front of someone once. I didn’t think too much about it, but I saw the person through my mirror and they were not happy about it. They were yelling and flipping me the bird. I thought, “How Rude!”
The reason I pulled out in front of them is because I was trying to get to hospice. My wife’s father was about to pass away and I wanted to be there to support her. I wasn’t a bad or rude person and I wasn’t thinking of myself. That’s when all of those times I had gotten angry at other drivers popped into my mind.
I was the rude one all those other times… I couldn’t believe it, but it was true. I was the rude one because I didn’t even think to consider why the people were pulling out in front of me. Now, I understand that they could have been in a hurry for many reasons and I wasn’t the one to judge them for his or her actions.
Adopt a Love Object and Place It In Your View
Love objects are very effective ways to practice an attitude of gratitude. I wrote about one of my love objects in this earlier post. Check it out when you get a chance. My wife has family pictures she hangs on the wall that I call her love objects.
Love objects are just things we place around the house or in our cars that make us happy or remind us of the things we love and are grateful for. They can be anything. I have a stone, my wife has her pictures, and you can have plants, pets, or any trinkets that you see on a daily basis that causes you to have feelings of love and gratitude.
It Is Easy To Practice Gratitiude
As you can see, it is easy to practice gratitude. Just like anything else you want to practice, you have to adopt techniques into your life that allow you to get better at the thing you desire. Do the same thing with your intention of developing an attitude of gratitude and just watch how easy it is to cultivate great things into your life.
