Is the Law of Attraction a Real Law?

It is not a governmental law. It’s not a law that can be broken, like speeding or stealing from a store. It’s not a law like the ten commandments or any religious law. Yet, it is still a law.

The Law of Attraction is the same type of law such as, the Law of Gravity or the Laws of Physics. These types of laws cannot be broken. You cannot go against the Law of Gravity and expect somehow to keep something from eventually falling back to the ground.

The same goes for the Law of Attraction. You cannot stop the Law of Attraction from working. It is always working and it is always creating abundance. The secret is to learn how to use the law to create the types of abundance that you find favorable.

The Law of Attraction is Just a New Age Spritual Thing.

Since most people don’t hear about the Law of Attraction until they are teenagers or even young adults, it is easy for them to think the law is a new thing. This couldn’t be further from the truth. It is understandable that rain existed before the first time you experienced it and that other people had birthdays before you were even born, correct?

The law seems like a new thing because the movie, The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, was released in 2006. Only, this wasn’t the first time the Law of Attraction had been written or spoken about. Actually, the first time the Law of Attraction was coined was one hundred years earlier in 1906.

William Walker Atkinson had a book published in1906 called, “Thought Vibration or the Law of Attraction.” He explains the law and how negative or positive thoughts have an effect on the universe. He explains the psychology of emotion and how emotions deepen with repetition.

More History of the Law of Attraction

I am going to provide some quotes from Buddha and the Bible. Not that I am trying to compare the two: only to point out that they mention some philosophies now attributed to the Law of Attraction.

The Bible Mentions:

“And all things, whatever you should ask for in prayer, believe, you shall receive it.” – Matthew 21:22

This quote follows the main teachings of the Law of Attraction. “Ask and you shall receive,” is also a shortened version ofIs the Law of Attraction for Real Bible Quotes

Matthew 7:7-8. Each of these quotes recognize that we have the power to ask the universe for something and believe that it will be delivered to us.

“As a man thinks in his heart, so is he” – Proverbs 23:7

This quote follows the Law of Attraction teachings. What we believe to be true is our truth. The beliefs that we hold in our hearts governs if we are happy or not happy with our lot in life.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed, by the renewing of your mind.” – Romans 12:2

This quote reflects the idea that the beliefs we have held on to and developed through our earlier years limit us from our true potential. We must not stick to our old ways and we must be always learning and adopting new ideas if we are to grow as human beings.

These are just a few of the quotes from the Bible that mention ideas taught by people instructing others in the Law of Attraction.

The Buddha and the Law of Attraction.

“It is wrong to think that misfortunes come from the east or from the west; they originate within one’s own mind. Therefore, it is foolish to guard against misfortunes from the external world and leave the inner mind uncontrolled.” – Buddha

Is the Law of Attraction a Real Law

In this quote, the Buddha states that it is our own minds that create the not-so-good luck that we experience in or lives.

“All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thoughts, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him.” – Buddha

Again, the Buddha is speaking of a Law of Attraction philosophy. If we speak, think, and act with bad intentions, then the universe will find a way to reciprocate that action back to us. Like attracts like. This is the primary thought behind the Law of Attraction.

“If a man’s mind becomes pure, his surroundings will also become pure.” – Buddha

Here the Buddha mentions one of the lessons found in practicing the law. If we think about great things and keep those things in mind, then our outside world will begin to reflect these pure thoughts.

Is the Law of Attraction for Real?

The Law of Attraction is not just a New Age Spiritual belief system. It is a universal law like the Law of Gravity. It cannot be stopped and it will continue to work even after each of us have lived out our lives.

The philosophies of the law can be found in history going back to the earliest times ever recorded. It may seem like something new, but that is only because we, as a people, are rediscovering it and learning how to conduct it into a useful tool.

Learning how to throw things at a target is one way we learned how to use the Law of Gravity productively. By keeping a goal like this in mind, we will eventually learn how to conduct the Law of Attraction in a constant favorable and productive fashion.

One Final Note:

One thing that most practitioners of the Law of Attraction get wrong is claiming that God and the Universe are one and the same. The truth is God created the universe and all the laws that the universe follows. Therefore, they are two different things.

We were given these universal laws to use toward our quest of being ever evolving spiritual creatures. We are to constantly strive to increase our understanding and ourselves while passing on what we learn to younger generations. The Law of Attraction is just another tool that we get to use to help us in accomplishing this goal. The goal to become better than we were yesterday.

  1. Hi Greg,

Thank you for touching on this aspect of the Law of Attraction and being clear LoA and God are not one and the same but LoA which is a tool created by God. I also like your reference to bible verses to explain it more. I enjoyed reading your presentation of this topic and your clarity in writing this makes it so easy to understand – who is the creator and what was created. Maybe you can take this discussion further with something like ‘how can we, the created, use the tools the creator created for us to use’ – simply put ‘how can we use the LoA’.

  3. Hello Greg,

Thank you for this interesting post. I like it when you say the Law of Attraction is the New Age of Spiritual belief system then you also make it clear the difference between God and Universe. Obviously we don’t want to confuse God and the universe.
I honestly think the law of attraction is real. What goes around, comes back around. If we want positive and good things in our life, we should speak, think, and act positively.
Another great post, Greg. Well done!

    • Hi Mo,
The last part is something that I believe should have been addressed since the beginning. The universe and the laws that govern it are all products of the creator. We should always pray to our creator, not something the creator made.
